"The mockery dinner was cooked jointly by Frigyes Karinthy and Dezső Kosztolányi. They invited guests, mainly their writer friends and their wives. The table was set with porcelain tableware, and the Karinthy and Kosztolányi couple were beautifully dressed and awaited the guests. Everyone looked forward to the dinner with great anticipation. When the maid served the first course, no one dared to speak: there was a bowl of watery caraway seed soup. The next course was no different: sticky dumplings were placed on the table by themselves..." This was the beginning, but not the end, of Karinthy and Kosztolányi's 'mocking dinner'. You can read the full story in Krisztián Nyáry's forthcoming book, or you can listen to it live, as Krisztián and the "writers' favourites" of Monk's Bistrot invite you and your company (max 6 people) to dinner. On this evening you will not only taste the - real - dishes composed by Mrs Kosztolányin, but you will also learn many exciting stories and anecdotes about the relationship between Hungarian writers, poets and gastronomy.
